This past Thursday CF Collectibles staff took a road trip around Central Florida to promote the upcoming DeLand Comic & Collectibles Show. It was great to get out to some places outside of our part of the state. We met some great people and saw a couple of fantastic stores.

We first met Jim at The 7th Inning Stretch in Dunnellon. He has a nice variety of comics, gaming items such as Yu-Gi-Oh, MTG and Pokemon and sports cards. If you are in the Ocala/Dunnellon area, stop in and check out his place. The next stop was Heroes Landing in Clermont. We met Todd there and picked up a few cool pins. The store has a good mix of figures, shirts, newer comics and other odds and ends. If you are in the Clermont area, stop in and check out the store.

You can pick up a flyer to our show in either of these locations and we wish them and everyone a safe and Happy New Year. See you at the show!

We want to welcome Tommy Castillo and Christian Slade to the 2013 DeLand Comic & Collectibles Show.

Tommy Castillo is a master artist of the twisted and the macabre. Whether creating a slimy corpse reaching for you or the gentle glance of a mighty dragon, Tommy will capture you with the dynamics of his penciling and the intensity of his palette. With a career spanning eighteen years, Tommy is famed and sought after for his dark humor, brilliant attention to detail, and his love of the darker side of art. Tommy has put paint and pencil to such titles as Batman Detective; Legends of the Dark Knight; Toetags, with Horror legend George Romero; Evil Ernie; Tales From the Crypt; Alice in Wonderland; King Kong; Dragons, Myths, and Mayhem; various storyboards and designs for films; and many more of the macabre based literature. Tommy has been sought out by the fields largest companies: DC comics, Paramount Pictures, Warhammer, Wizards of the Coast, and Image and as offbeat as Rolling Stone magazine. His diverse styling and insane line work have defined him as one of today’s greatest in the field of comics and fine art…and y’know, he renders some of the scariest books of today, and the guy will get as giddy as a schoolboy on Sunday at the sight of a muppet. You gotta love that.

Every new project is the start of an adventure. As long as I’m creating stories with my artwork, I’ll go to wherever the party is. So far, the journey has brought me to many inspiring places. Children’s books, animated films, advertising art, graphic novels….. each one is a chance for me to do the things I do best.

A bit about Christian Slade: Picture-making has been a part of our history as far back as we can remember. Whether the work represents the ideal or real, the dark or the light, it all has something to say. I love everything about being an artist. If you give me the chance, I’ll talk your ear off about illustration, sketchbooks, movies, comic books, toys, and probably Star Wars if it comes up. I received an M.A. in Illustration from Syracuse University and a B.F.A. in Drawing and Animation from the University of Central Florida. My work has been recognized by The Society of Illustrators New York, and Spectrum annuals.

Joel Wynkoop was born in Owatonna Minnesota August 24th 1960. He grew up on the “Batman” TV series and episodes of first run “Star Trek” episodes. I guess you could say he was always acting dressed up in a make shift Batman suit and a towel wrapped around his neck as a cape. Due to his Dad’s heart condition Joel and family moved to Lake Park, Florida in 1972. Joel’s interest in movies such as “KING KONG” and “GODZILLA” started the filmmaking bug for Joel. His Dad bought him a super 8 camera and soon Joel was making super 8 movies with his neighbors. “The Eight Million Dollar Boy” (“The Six Million Dollar Man” was on TV then with Lee Majors) and “The Invisible Transport Boy” were just one of his super 8 films.

As time went on Joel teamed up with Tim (his neighbor who appeared in some of his super 8 movies in his early days of filmmaking) Ritter to make an anthology video with seven short stories which they called “TWISTED ILLUSIONS” which soon became their company name. Then one of the shorts was liked so well by Geoffrey Miller of PEERLESS FILMS that they financed a BIG budgeted “TRUTH OR DARE?: A CRITICAL MADNESS” which Tim had expanded from the original short from “TWISTED ILLUSIONS”. Then came “KILLING SPRRE” which Wynkoop had taken a role as the TV repairman. As Wynkoop was shooting “KILLING SPREE” he started his own script called “LOST FAITH” which he made shortly after working on “KILLING SPREE”. Once “LOST FAITH” was complete Tim and Joel started working on “WICKED GAMES TRUTH OR DARE part 2″ which Wynkoop starred in as Dr. Dan Hess. After this was released Tim wrote in new script entitled “CREEP” which again would star Joel Wynkoop as the crazed psychopath Angus Lynch. After this Wynkoop’s career started to take off working for the likes of Kevin Lindenmuth out of New York and Phil Herman and Ryan Cavalline all movie makers which wanted to secure Wynkoop for their movies.

Then the movies really began to pour in, “HORROR TALES 666″, “Tales for the Midnight Hour”, “Brain Robbers from Outer Space”, “Dirty Cop No Donut“, (“Dirty Cop No Donut” was in the movie “MEN IN BLACK 2″ with Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones.) “ROT”, “Alien Agenda (Alien Agenda was picked up as a TV series in the U.K.) Endangered Species”, “Out of the Darkness” and “Alien Conspiracy Return to the Lost World”, “Dark Dimensions”, “Raging Bells”, “The Bite“, “Twisted Illusions 2″, “SCREAMING FOR SANITY, TRUTH or DARE part 3″, “Dirty Cop No Donut I am a Pig”. “Dirty Cop Special Edition”, “Scary Tales”, “Scary Tales 2 The Return of Mr. Longfellow”, “Strip Club Slasher”, “Stopped Dead”, “Brainjacked”, “Not of this World”, “Shawanookie”, “Herschell Gordon Lewis The Uh-Oh Show“, “Demon”, “Always Midnight”, “Fall of an Actor“, “Indiscretions”, “FURY”, “Joe Vampire”, “Rough Cut” and the list goes on.

Wynkoop has has three television shows over the years, “STAY IN SCHOOL”, “Laugh and Learn” ( both show’s for kids) The Joel Wynkoop Show (where he interviewed people in the entertainment world) and Joel D.
